Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia), commonly known as Karela in Hindi or Bitter melon in English, is a tropical, vine-bearing plant producing elongated, ridged, green fruits prized for their distinctive bitter flavor and exceptional nutritional density. The immature, tender gourds (8-10 inches) are harvested while still vibrant green and are the preferred form for culinary use and export.
