About Nutmeg
Nutmeg is the dried seed kernel of the tropical evergreen tree Myristica fragrans, which uniquely yields two distinct spices: nutmeg (the hard inner seed) and mace (the bright red, lacy aril that wraps the seed). After harvest the fruit is split, the mace peeled off and dried separately, and the seed dried in its shell for several weeks before the brittle shell is cracked to release the brown, oval nutmeg kernel.
